Perhaps the most important thing we learned from our testing is that smoke detectors have a limited range, which is one of the reasons modern building codes require a unit in every bedroom as well as in areas adjacent to bedrooms. To test effectiveness, we sprayed test smoke from an aerosol can directly at each device and timed how long it took the alarm to sound. We sprayed the test smoke from 5, 10 and 15 feet away. Every detector sounded within 30 seconds at the 5 foot mark. Three smart smoke alarms –Nest Protect, Halo+ and First Alert Onelink – went off at the 10 foot mark. All but one of the smoke detectors, the Nest Protect, failed to detect dangerous levels of smoke at the 15 foot mark.

I have to be honest: at less than 60 dollars, I’m initially a little skeptical of the Lynx’s abilities. Sure, it’s got 1080p HD and two way audio. But can it get the job done when it comes to artificial intelligence?Surprisingly, this inexpensive little camera has facial recognition technology. I’ll admit that it’s not perfect as I move my face in different angles, the camera isn’t always able to recognize me. But for the price point, I’m pretty impressed. The Lynx camera is a great option for people who want facial recognition at an affordable price.

View SiteA video doorbell can let you see who's at the door and find out what they want — even if you're not home. After we spent more than 40 hours testing a half dozen video doorbells, we think the best you can get is the Nest Hello Smart Wi Fi Video Doorbell. It has the highest video quality, can recognize individual faces—and can announce them to you, too. The best video doorbell under $100 is the Ring Video Doorbell. Although its resolution is just 720p—lower than the other video doorbells—but video was clear enough to see who was at the door, and Ring's app has a lot of excellent features. Trying to decide which Ring video doorbell to get? We've put together a comparison of the Ring, Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Pro, and the Ring Door View Cam.
